My Project
Hi! My name is Grace Boseck and I have been approved to host the Block Out for Breast Cancer fundraiser in order to earn my Gold Award. The Gold Award is an 80 hour community service project through Girl Scouts that teaches girls about leadership and making a difference. I am also very involved in the community of indoor volleyball, where I was first introduced to "Pink Out Games." These volleyball games occur during October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and they are meant to draw attention to the subject and fundraise for breast cancer patients and treatment centers. I've always loved these games and what they stand for, but I also believe that breast cancer shouldn't be a trend during October, and it should be acknowledged and thought about year-round. To make this idea come to life, I've decided to host a volleyball fundraiser in June that advocates for awareness and knowledge on Breast Cancer. At my event, I have made it a big priority of mine to have resources available on the important facts about Breast Cancer that can help the community understand the disease, and how to look out for it. But most importantly, I wanted to show my support for women going through treatment and remind people that the patients are so much more than a statistic. With the profits from my fundraiser tickets, I will purchase items recommended to me by Breast Cancer Survivors to make care baskets for women actively in Breast Cancer treatment. These women deserve care and support all throughout the year. I believe that this project is a chance for the community to come together and learn how to make an impact.
